Walking

The coastline offers stunning scenery - walk from Skaill to Birsay or Skaill to Yesnaby. Orkney Ramblers Club do organised walks.

Cycling

Orkney’s landscape is fairly flat so not too tough for the cyclist. Orkney Cycle Hire.

Fishing

Orkney’s lochs offer some of the finest brown trout fishing in Britain. “Instabillie” is centrally located for the top 4 fishing lochs - Skaill, Harray, Stenness and Boardhouse. Or try some sea or shore angling - Orkney Islands Sea Angling Assoc.

Golf

There is an 18 hole golf course in Stromness.

Rock Climbing

Coastal climbs and majestic sea stacks. 

Kayaking*

Have a paddle near the shore or venture further to tackle the powerful waves which have travelled across the Atlantic.

Surfing - Board, Wind and Kite*

Some of the best waves in Europe. The beach of Skaill Bay is a favourite.

*Note: Swells can reach up to 30 ft in winter. Please be advised you should be experienced before tackling these waters at any time of year.
