The Loons and Loch of Banks RSPB reserve is the largest remaining wetland in Orkney boasting an array of plant, invertebrate and bird species throughout the year. A variety of birdlife can be viewed from the hide, especially breeding and overwintering wildfowl such as pintail, white fronted geese, waders such as redshank and snipe and hunting raptors such as the hen harrier, merlin and short-eared owl.

Marwick Head, known as Seabird City supports thousands of seabirds such as kittiwakes, guillemots and puffins.

The Ring of Brodgar RSPB Reserve, located between Harray and Stenness lochs has a marked path where you can enjoy a variety of wildlife such as curlews, teals and skylarks. This
reserve is managed to provide a suitable habitat for the Great Yellow Bumblebee, one of the UK’s rarest bees.
